Picking up the same ingredients of Volume 1, in other words a tribute to the Jamaican music of the 60s and 70s mixed up with a contemporary lo fi sauce, Slim Levy and Tribuman have pushed their music towards song s with « a priori » offbeat texts and dubs that are more in depth.
Even though the topics of the songs can make you smile at first, this is not true if you look carefully because all tracks have a double meaning.
For example, the instrumenatl dub Vavavou m __ a title reminding of the motor noise onomatopeia__ is spiced up with bicycle bells sounds to recall how important it is to use more ecological means of transport.
The song I love apples is not only a fable about a mysterious apple, but also denounces the pervasiveness of a certain software brand, effective but creating its own monopoly.
The title Juicy burgers deals with first, an ecological and vegan tendency (vegan burger), and secondly with the undernutrition issue in some countries (« give dem som e food »).
As for My Countryside, the thematic is a return to the rural area where the « chicken melodies » can still be heard, unlike the generally ambient noises in big cities.
Concerning the musical setting, the duo continues to cheerfully mix more than a dozen of instruments (bass, guitar, vocals, trumpet, trombone, bugle, drums, percussions, organ , piano) with daily life noises ground by distorsions and delays. The two protagonists have been following the recipe of the genre masters Lee Perry and Ki ng Tubby in their respective home studios in Strasbourg, and have pushed it into a retro modern atmosphere that is a bit wacky. Small bonus : the mastering on tapes is once again provided by Dr Charty in the Bat Records studio.
